At Sompting Village Primary School our aim is that all our learners are able to succeed to the best of their abilities and thrive. We work hard to provide a stimulating, inclusive and accessible curriculum, with appropriate adaptations and additional support when needed.
We are aware that many children, at some point during their school career, have individual needs which may require special help. If a need is identified, we work with the child, their families and relevant professionals to put the right support in place.
If a parent/carer has a concern, we welcome contact with the school to discuss this with us. We value parental involvement and believe in the importance of working in partnership to support every child.
All schools within West Sussex have a similar approach to meeting the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) and are supported by the Local Authority to strive for all pupils, regardless of their specific needs, to make the best possible progress in school.
All schools are supported to be as inclusive as possible, with the needs of pupils with SEND being met in mainstream settings wherever possible.

- Cognition and Learning
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties
- Sensory and/or Physical
What is the local offer?
- The Children and Families Bill was enacted in September 2014. From this date, local Authorities (LA) and schools have been required to publish, and keep under review, information about services they expect to be available for children and young people with special educational needs. The LA refer to this as the 'Local Offer'.
- The aim of the Local Offer is to improve choice and transparency for families. It is also an important resource for parents in understanding the range of services and provision in the local area. Schools utilise the LA Local Offer to meet the needs of SEND pupils as determined by school policy and the provision that the school is able to provide.
