Sompting Village Primary School

Welcome

Welcome to Sompting Village Primary School, from Sarah Erratt-Rose (headteacher)

As the headteacher of Sompting Village Primary School, I would like to offer you a very warm welcome to our website.  On our various pages, you will get a small taste of our school, where we promote trusting, caring, honest, thoughtful relationships and are deeply committed to our pupils and their families.

The children, of course, are at the heart of everything we do. We teach children to believe in, care about and respect themselves and others, whilst striving to be the very best that they can both in their learning and as human beings.

We provide a wide-ranging curriculum, which is delivered both indoors and out, onsite and off, during the school day and out of school hours; it includes opportunities that some children might otherwise never have at this age.

Here are a few simple facts that you might like to know about our school before launching into the website as a whole:

-we are two-form entry school

-we are a mainstream, West Sussex local authority school

-we are the only primary school in Sompting, yet families travel to us from far and wide!

-we have a large team of staff

-we take children on adventurous and cultural trips

-we are visited by all sorts of inspirational individuals and groups

All in all, Sompting Village Primary is a busy, hardworking, friendly, positive place to be. I am incredibly proud of the children and their achievements and privileged to be their headteacher.

There is so much more to tell, starting with our school ethos page, so please do take a look around to see what you can find out about our school.

Naturally, a website such as this cannot always tell the whole picture. If you are not already a member of the Sompting Village Primary School community and would like to visit our school to see what it might offer your child, please do not hesitate to contact our office team on 01903 204627, or email them: office@somptingvillageprimary.co.uk

With very best wishes,

Sarah Erratt-Rose

New Logo

Last year, we decided to make the move towards a new school logo and this has now started to happen.  All classes discussed ideas for the logo, as did staff and governors, then the school council met to share all of these, plus comments that had been received verbally and via email from parents and carers, too.  The school council agreed, from everything that had been shared, the features that they wanted on the new logo and the final design was created and approved.

This year, we will be between logos.  This means that the new logo will start to appear on displays around the school, on letter headings, on the school website, etc.  It will NOT yet appear on PE kits or school uniform but we will start conversations with our uniform providers for this to change ready for September 2027 (a whole year away).  Please know that when we do change the logo on the uniform and PE kit, children will still be allowed to wear the old logo, but the new logo will phase in as they grow out of old clothes.  We hope this puts your mind at rest and removes as financial pressures regarding uniform.

We are aware that several members (including governors and staff as well as families) are sad that St. Mary’s Church will no longer appear in the logo.  The school council, though, agreed that it shouldn’t be there as we are not a church school, but also recognised how very important the church is as an historical feature of Sompting and its community.  We will, of course, try to continue to celebrate this important church through our curriculum and conversations.  We will not undervalue or ignore it.  The church is precious to many, for many reasons both historically and personally and we will remember that.

A brief guide to our new logo from the children of SVPS

The Sun

Not every day is sunny in Sussex/Sompting but we want the sun there because it shows our school is a warm place to be.  The sun usually helps everyone to feel happy.

Seagulls

There are always seagulls on our school roof, flying over our school and hanging around on the school field so we definitely need seagulls on our logo.

The Sea and The Downs

We are very lucky because we live near hills (the downs) and the sea so we want to have them both on the logo.  The sea is quite often rough but we wanted it to be calm to show our school is calm and caring.

The Trees and the Hedges

We want these types of trees and hedges because they look like the ones we have around here and from most windows at school we can see trees and hedges.

The Sky

One shade of blue would be boring! We know from art lessons that the sky isn’t just one colour; it needs to be gradually changing (but we know that might be hard for the logo on the uniform and that’s okay!).

The Outer Circle and Lettering

We wanted this to be the same blue as our school jumper with the lettering in white because we wear white polo shirts; also, white shows up well on the blue; that’s why we wanted the white borders as well.
